Movavi Video Editor 15 Test

Are you looking for an inexpensive video editing program for beginners without previous knowledge? Movavi Video Editor 15 is such a program. Easily edit videos, add transitions, insert effects and titles, and export your movie. There you go. Ok, this is actually the same procedure as with any other video editing software. But I haven’t seen a program that was easier to use than this one – for 30€.

General information

The Movavi Video Editor, like almost all other programs, is available in three versions. Once the normal version for 30€, the plus version for 40€ and the video suite for 50€. The video editing program is clearly aimed at beginners. Adobe Premiere Elements is also very beginner-friendly and costs more than twice as much. What’s the big difference? Let’s have a look at the Movavi Editor in detail.

Surface

The interface is designed very simple and clear according to the target group. At the top right there is a large preview monitor, which can be operated in the bar below. In the vertical bar on the far left you will find the menu. There you can easily add video, photo and music files to the timeline. Furthermore you have the possibility to embellish your videos with filters, transitions, stickers and captions (titles as seen on the picture). Even image stabilization is on board with the editor. With the Chroma-Key function you can make a color transparent. What you need it for? For example, you take on a completely green background. Then remove the green color with the Chroma Key function and add another background. So you can promote yourself in the video to all places of the world😀.

With the latest Video Editor 15, the timeline/timeline has been thoroughly reworked and significantly improved. So now you have the possibility to add new tracks if you need more and it is possible to adjust the order as you like.

The improved design is particularly striking: unlike most other video editing programs, there are different tracks for titles, video files and sound files. With the other programs, there is no limitation in the tracks, which sometimes leads to confusion. Thanks to the new design of the Timeline you have everything in view and the different looks are an excellent support especially for beginners.

Furthermore, you even have a few options to edit the audio file. For example, you can change the speed or remove annoying noises.

When your video is ready, simply press the Export button in the lower right corner.

What I particularly like

I think it’s great how this video editing program takes you by the hand as a beginner. When I edited videos for the first time, I didn’t know at first what you can do with such a program. The first videos looked accordingly. Here, however, you can edit your first videos after a few minutes. The interface is wonderfully simple and when you open the program, the editor offers you a guide to the functions of the video editing software. If you click on Read instructions, you will be taken to a Movavi website where all the functions are described in detail. I only have the free trial version and don’t know what it looks like if you bought the program. (Note: The instructions were for the older version of the Video Editor. I will test the new editor in the next few days and see if anything has changed.)

Differences between the three versions

As already mentioned, Movavi offers three versions of its video editing program. The differences lie mainly in the range of functions of the three programs.

Video Editor (Basic)

This is the standard package with the normal range of functions for everyday and simple video editing. I would say a good alternative to Windows Movie Maker with many additional features.

Video Editor Plus

The Plus version offers exactly the same as the basic version, but with a few extra extras. Here you have more stickers, video clips and music tracks available and you have the possibility to animate objects.

Video Suite

This video editing program is a package of different individual programs. Here you get the Video Editor Plus and additionally the program Video Converter Premium and a screen recorder as well as some additional free programs. The screen recorder is of course great if you want to record gameplays. Otherwise, I would rather recommend the other programs, as the suite version normally costs more than 100€ according to the manufacturer.

Super function for beginners

If the whole video editing and editing process takes too long for you, you can simply turn on the Montage Wizard. It edits your videos all by itself to the music you select.

Comparison to other beginner programs

The price of Movavi Editor 15 already shows the differences between it and other beginner programs. Premiere Elements, for example, costs more than double. But it has to be said that the Movavi Editor mainly has the standard functions and few extras, which is quite okay for the price. Other programs such as Video deluxe offer a little more functionality in this respect.
